About Tom
Whether its writing a nostalgic 00’s pop rock track with fast paced riffs, indie anthems with infectious lyrics or pulling on heart strings with relatable messages and simplistic arrangements, Tom always gives it 110% towards everything he works on creatively.
Born in Worcester, gravel-voiced musician Tom Baker started his songwriting journey at age 13 with nothing more than a guitar and notebook. Tom’s first love for music stemmed from watching McFly on their ‘Motions in The Oceans Tour’ in 2006. The energy he witnessed on stage, fuelled him to teach himself guitar throughout his childhood and discover more bands and artists along the way.
After getting a taste of the professional industry, Baker moved to Guildford in 2019 to study for a BA Honours degree at Academy Of Contemporary Music. From March 2020 - December 2021. Tom helped kick start and help in a songwriting camp for the public on zoom over the duration of the Lockdown(s) in the UK. This camp saw Tom and founding artist, Alys Sheahan oversee many groups of aspiring musicians collaborating on a weekly basis. Each session was based around different concepts and discussions.
As a songwriter, Tom's role within these sessions was to support breakout groups. The first song written at the first session was “Kryptonite”, which Baker has now recorded and produced.
From writing with various artists and producers over the past 9 years - including: Alys Sheahan, Luke Hunter, Joe Mylward & Morgan M-James, Tom has multiple approaches and methods when writing a song. Within his network, Baker is often praised for his versatility and open-mindedness when in a session and is often able to develop the main bulk of a song from a single word/theme.
The future is bright for Tom, he got the opportunity to travel and network in Nashville for a week in 2023 - with sessions booked already for 2024 with upcoming country artist Scarlet O'Hara. On top of this, Baker will be working with Alex Hopkins on his EP and further releases, with upcoming single 'Rather Run' coming out in February 16th 2024 - which Tom wrote and played Bass on.
Alongside his session work, so far Tom will also be working with upcoming closely artists and bands, such as: Brandimarte, Alli Stoenescu, Chris Harper, Idolising Nova, Rachel Newham, Jack Fozz, Sam Fraser & Kate Flanders.
